Bright Stars Sweep Tunisia Qualifying Window with Three Consecutive Victories

The South Sudan National Olympic Committee (SSNOC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the South Sudan national basketball team, supported efforts to bring South Sudanese supporters to Tunisia for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers.

The initiative reflected a shared commitment to standing behind the national team as the Bright Stars continued their campaign towards another appearance on the world basketball stage. By helping supporters travel to Tunisia, the SSNOC and its partners sought to strengthen the connection between the team and the South Sudanese people, ensuring that the players could feel the nation's support while competing away from home.

The Bright Stars responded with an outstanding performance, winning all three of their games during the qualifying window and reinforcing South Sudan's position as a competitive force in African basketball.

South Sudan opened the window with an 81–71 victory over Guinea before securing a hard-fought 82–79 win against Nigeria. The team completed a memorable run with a 79–75 victory over hosts Tunisia.

Three games, three victories and an overall powerful demonstration of the resilience, teamwork and determination that have become defining characteristics of the national side.

The results strengthened South Sudan's position in Group E and brought the country another step closer to its ambition of competing at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.

The SSNOC congratulates the players, coaching staff, technical team and the wider basketball fraternity for their outstanding performance. The Committee also recognises the contribution of the Ministry of Youth and Sport and all those who worked to support the team's participation and the mobilisation of South Sudanese supporters.

The campaign demonstrated what can be achieved when national institutions, sporting federations, athletes and supporters work towards a common goal.

As the Bright Stars prepare for the remaining stages of qualification, the SSNOC calls for continued national support, investment in basketball development and stronger systems that enable South Sudanese athletes to compete at the highest level.

Team South Sudan continues to unite the nation through sport, carrying the country's hopes and ambitions onto the international stage.
